Game Rules for Pale PCs

Pale Rulings for Some Prestige Classes

version 1.0, May 2005

This document defines how the special requirements for certain prestige classes (as mentioned in the Living Greyhawk Campaign Sourcebook version 4.2) will be administered in the Theocracy of the Pale. The text of the LGCS is quoted, and then the Pale ruling follows.

Alienist:

LGCS: "This contact must be specifically listed in an adventure to count or gained through your local triad. Summoned or otherwise magically compelled creatures do not count."

Pale: Summoning pseudonatural creatures is against the law in the Pale, and the Arcanist Guild holds great enmity for anyone who deals peaceably with the Far Realm.

The Pale Triad will not approve access to the Alienist class beyond what is already provided on ARs.

If, during a Pale Regional scenario, the Church or the Arcanist Guild learns that a PC is a member of this prestige class, she must spend 4 TUs in a New Dawn Camp after the adventure. We do not intend this rule to lead to player-versus-player conflicts, so be judicious.

Church Inquisitor:

LGCS: "The corruption must be either specifically noted on an AR for an adventure or the triad has designated the occurrence as valid. Contact your local triad for more information."

Pale: Church Inquisitors of Pholtus are held in the highest regard by the Church of the One True Path. They are also expected to uphold the traditions of the Palish Church of Pholtus and not the traditions of non-Palish Pholtan churches.

Inquisitors of other churches are not especially welcome by the Church of the One True Path. Since Pholtus is the only true god, no other church has the right to inquisitors or to hold inquisitions. Although Church Inquisitors of other churches are not illegal in the Pale, they are treated with disrespect when their profession is known by the Church of the One True Path.

One should submit an essay documenting the incidence of corruption to the Triad in order for them to determine its validity. The essay should be approximately one paragraph long and should list the scenario played and the name of the judge of the scenario.

Consecrated Harrier:

LGCS: "The assignment and its completion must be set up through your local triad."

Pale: The Pale Triad intends to use the villains in certain regional scenarios as the targets of these assignments. If you want your PC to be ordained as a consecrated harrier, submit an application to the Pale Triad, as if you were applying for a Quest (special mission). You need not list potential companions, but your application should show why your PC is suited for the life of a consecrated harrier. The Pale Triad will work with you to determine an enemy from a current or future scenario, which will allow you to fulfill the requirements of the class.

Contemplative:

LGCS: "This contact must be specifically listed in an adventure with the god or gods it counts towards or gained through your local triad. Summoned or otherwise magically compelled creatures do not count."

Pale: Meeting one’s deity ought to be a special occasion. The Pale Triad will approve access only through play, not simply charging some TUs or gold. Access might be included on a regional AR, but you should submit an application for a Quest (special mission) to be sure you get access to the appropriate deity—and it will be specific to your PC that way.

Dungeon Delver:

LGCS: "Only the 2nd method can be met in play. The DM has the discretion if the situation in the adventure meets this requirement and if so will note it on your AR. Method 1 and 3 must be requested through your local triad."

Pale: The Pale Triad does not plan to approve requests for method 1, which is a one-week solo mission.

Your PC may qualify through method 3, which is spending a year underground—possibly among friendly demihumans in the Rakers or Griff Mountains. The PC must be at least 3rd level before he undertakes this requirement. First email the Pale Triad with your intention to begin the process. Later, when you prove that the PC has not adventured for the past 52 TUs (or one calendar year, whichever comes first), the Triad will send you documentation that unlocks this class.

Elemental Savant:

LGCS: "This contact must be specifically listed in an adventure to count or gained through your local triad. Summoned or otherwise magically compelled creatures do not count.“

Pale: The Arcanist Guild maintains contacts with the elemental planes; the wilderness areas around the Pale also harbor some elementals. The Arcanist Guild meta-org unlocks this class, and access might also be included on future regional ARs.

Invisible Blade:

LGCS: "This single combat must be set up through your local triad and documented."

Pale: The Pale Triad is making up a stable of worthy NPCs to fight potential invisible blade PCs one-on-one. If you would like your PC to qualify as an invisible blade, submit an application to the Pale Triad, as if you were applying for a Quest (special mission). You need not list potential companions.

If your application is accepted, the Pale Triad or a designated representative will run the solo combat at a convention, probably between gaming slots.

Mage of the Arcane Order:

LGCS: "Your local triad will provide information on where the initiation fee is to be paid."

Pale: The Arcanist Guild is the Pale’s equivalent of the Arcane Order. The Pale Triad intends to make access to this prestige class available through the Arcanist Guild meta-org.

Nightsong Enforcer & Nightsong Infiltrator:

LGCS: "The character must be affiliated with a thieves' guild or other such organization (instead of the Nightsong Guild). Contact your local triad for more information."

Pale: The Nightsong Guild, per se, does not exist, but it is an elite and selective subset of the thieves’ guild. Naturally, it is illegal in the Pale.

If, during a Pale Regional scenario, the Church learns that a PC is a member of one of these prestige classes, she must spend 4 TUs in a New Dawn Camp after the adventure and pay a fine of 500 gp. We do not intend this rule to lead to player-versus-player conflicts, so be judicious.

Rainbow Servant:

LGCS: "Contact your triad for information on meeting this special requirement."

Pale: Information about the hidden jungle temples of the couatls might be buried in the Library of Antigua, but the librarians aren’t talking. The Pale Triad will accept requests for Quests (special missions), but be aware that the Pale is an unusual place for a would-be Rainbow Servant to live.

Sacred Exorcist:

LGCS: "The special requirement must be met through a meta-org that specifically grants it or through your local triad."

Pale: If you would like to get your PC ordained as a Sacred Exorcist, submit an application to the Pale Triad, as if you were applying for a Quest (special mission). You need not list potential companions, but your application should show why your PC is suited for the life of a Sacred Exorcist.

If your application is accepted and your PC serves Pholtus, the Church will ordain him at no TU cost. If your application is accepted and your PC serves a different deity, it will take an additional expense of time to find and/or visit the order that will ordain him; this travel will take 1 TU (with lifestyle costs waived), to be added onto the PC’s next AR.

Shadowbane Inquisitor & Shadowbane Stalker:

LGCS: "This prestige class upholds the ideals specified in the text, but is not part of the Order of Illumination (this knightly order does not exist in LIVING GREYHAWK)."

Pale: The Church of the One True Path does include a secretive order of zealous Pholtans, who are members of the Shadowbane classes. If you would like to get your PC ordained in one of these classes, submit an application to the Pale Triad, as if you were applying for a Quest (special mission). You need not list potential companions, but your application should show why your PC is suited for the life of a Shadowbane Inquisitor or Shadowbane Stalker. If your application is accepted, the Church will ordain him.

Temple Raider of Olidammara (or others):

LGCS: "Contact your triad for more information on being invited into this prestige class."

Pale: In the Pale, followers of Olidammara are rare, as are those of the other deities allowed to become Temple Raiders (see the Deities Document, version 2.0). The Pale Triad might grant access to this prestige class through a non-Pholtan meta-org such as the Council of Faith. If not, you will need access on an AR or through a special mission.

Wayfarer Guide:

LGCS: "Contact your local triad for more information."

Pale: The Arcanist Guild includes a Wayfarers Union. The Pale Triad intends to make access available through the Arcanist Guild meta-org when it is revised.

Wild Mage:

LGCS: No special requirements.

Pale: Actual casting of wild magic is against the law in the Pale. Since wild mages must be chaotic, a known wild mage is suspected as a potential enemy of the state (the Pale hates chaos at least as much as evil, remember).

If, during a Pale Regional scenario, the Church learns that a PC used wild magic, she must spend 1 TU in a New Dawn Camp after the adventure. We do not intend this rule to lead to player-versus-player conflicts, so be judicious.
